Spare me<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>O brother! Don\u2019t you have sisters?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>See, I\u2019m like your sister<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You don\u2019t do dirty things to your sister, do you<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019m eight months pregnant<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My child will die<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They pointed gun at me<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Asked to cook, give them bed<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How could I say no when I saw death before me<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please believe me<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019m a poor woman<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I know nothing about Saddam<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I don\u2019t recognize Bin Laden<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I have to work dawn to dusk<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To feed my family<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My husband is a bonded labourer<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please don\u2019t come near<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Why are you pulling my maxi<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You want to corrupt expectant mother<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Don\u2019t you fear God!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If I knew this was what I was to pay<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For giving shelter to the terrorist<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I would have faced the gun instead<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At least my child would not have witnessed this horror<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Forgive me, my unborn child<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I could not save you<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s what I\u2019m hearing<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The voice is distant<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yet pierces my heart<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I try to become insensible against her suffering<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I place my clotted hands<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the cold cemented floor<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pain eases. Is she a terrorist?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A pregnant terrorist!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I hear cries,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I can\u2019t understand what she is saying<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Her voice is choked<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Death would have been easier for her<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I wish her death<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How long does it take to self-heal<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wounds on your lips<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019m waiting for my turn<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To be taken away<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Blindfolded. Hands and feet cuffed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Interrogated<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And then face a death squad<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Perhaps, I will be chosen to live<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here, everyone is not condemned to death<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The old man who said<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His son was a migrant worker in Syria<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Came back after the interrogation<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said they whipped him<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even fired a bullet that hit his left ear<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But let him live<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Two days later he came to me, dressed properly<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Asked my address<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Said, he will give message to my family<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That I\u2019m alive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alive?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Is this the living?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My hunger never satiated<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thirst never quenched<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I can\u2019t ask them for water<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They will pee over me<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I pick up bread pieces from the floor<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I don\u2019t want to waste anything<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Don\u2019t know when I will get to eat again<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I want to go to bathroom<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But can I survive their batons<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even my barn is more spacious<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are cramped here<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There I see a boy<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Perhaps 14 years or maybe 15, but no more than 17<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Was he Taliban?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Did he kill Americans<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hurl bombs over the patrolling army?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He says he was going to school<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Taliban kidnapped him<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Made him dig a trench,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Carry bombs and ammunitions<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Always on gun point<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Poor boy,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From frying pan, he fell into the fire<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I want to listen to his stories<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But poor soul, could not sustain electric shocks<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the bare floor he remains unconscious<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I don\u2019t see that girl<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last time I saw her<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She was bleeding below her waist<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She tried to walk<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But fell on the floor<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Two men in fatigue<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pulled her by her hand and dumped in the corner<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the morning she was gone<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I look at my swelling legs<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Will I be able to walk to the interrogation room?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Blood clotted shirt is stuck on my body<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Do I have to take out my shirt to face the squad?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Can my sore throat utter<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Words to justify myself<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the last hour<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What will I remember<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wife? Son?
